More studios are treating their games as live services now, which means constant updates, bug fixes, and new content. Handling all of this internally can be exhausting and expensive, especially after launch when profits can be unpredictable. Outsourcing live game support could help, but I wonder if it risks losing the “soul” of the project. Has anyone here tried working with external partners for ongoing support, and how did it affect the game’s quality and player community?

From what I’ve read, external support services are becoming standard in the industry. Studios like DevotedStudios step in to handle updates, bug fixes, or even new seasonal content while the core developers focus on larger expansions. This keeps the game active without burning out the main team. By maintaining direct communication and detailed guidelines, external partners don’t erase the soul of the game but help extend its lifespan. In many cases, players don’t even notice the difference in who built the update.
